it says you do not have permission to connect to this server, there is no password on my windows system, I'm sharing one of the drive in my PC as I always have but it just won't connect. I can see the windows computer from finder but when I click on it it says connection failed.

please help, it's driving me mad.

What OS on windows are you using? When I set this up in my home, I had to turn on passwords in windows.
I will second this. In order to be able to connect to drives on a Windows box, there MUST be a password set on the Windows box. You will then be prompted for that password when you connect to the Windows box from your Mac.

progress report:

I've booted into a different installation of windows xp on my pc and leopard will connect to it so it must be something I've done to windows that's stopping leopard connecting. any ideas what it could be? I'm not using a firewall, what have I done?
