On my original home account, NAME A, I had File Vault activated. I'm also running Time Machine and just discovered that oops, my NAME A files aren't being backed up by Time Machine. I was unable to turn off File Vault due to an error message, so I created a disk image of the NAME A files onto an external drive using the directions I found here. (I realize that the directions I was following were for an older version than I have (I am running 10.6.8), but I searched high and low and couldn't find anything more current that addressed my issue. It may exist out there but I couldn't find it!) These directions instruct you to create a new user account, copy the home files there using an external drive, and then not protect it with File Vault so that Time Machine will work.

I created a new user account, NAME B, logged into it, and mounted the disk image on the desktop. But when I get to the step 19 in the directions linked above, which says to copy the files from the disk image into the NAME B home folder, I get the error message, "Desktop cannot be modified or deleted because it's required by Mac OS X."

I tried to copy just individual folders from the disk image and that didn't work either; I'd get the same error message as above: "Documents cannot be modified..." "Library cannot be modified..." etc.

Can someone help me figure out how to get the files from the disk image into the NAME B folder? I'm not terribly computer-savvy, but any advice would be immensely appreciated!
