Can't create USB bootable

I'm trying to do a clean install of Mountain Lion. I want to wipe everything and start from scratch, and just restore my music/movies/pictures from Time Machine backup (this is possible, right?)


But when I go to make the bootable USB thorough disk utility it runs for like 5 min the just fails and says "not valid" or something like that.


Any ideas?
