I've done a search through the forums--and also through Apple forums--and I'm not seeing this addressed anywhere:

When I couldn't find the Quick Look "eye" icon anywhere on my new iMac, I was told to go to the Finder toolbar and choose "Customize toolbar..." (under View). Thing is: almost all the items under View are grayed out, including that one. Anyone know what the deal is? or how to retrieve that particular function?

Thanks to those of you who answered my original question, I do know how to use the spacebar to pull up instant Quick Look--so I don't really need the "eye" icon, but it would be nice to have the option to customize toolbar, or to choose other finder View options.

Many thanks for any insight.

Make sure you have an active Finder window open and then go to View and Customize Toolbar should be highlighted.

Got it! Thanks! And duh! ... I didn't realize I couldn't access those Finder options from the desktop...
Thanks for the response--and sorry to be such a dufus!
