I ordered the new Watch 11 in Aluminium but have been super mega careful with my Watch 7.

I thought i will take care of the new watch as with the S7, but somehow it's annoying to always think that i might bump into something.

The titanium will have the sapphire, so the screen will be very fine. But how does the titanium case will hold up? I think i'll picke the slate color.

Hope to get some feedback :)

I have an s10 Titanium. 1yr old now. Slight scuffs on top and bottom of case just above where the strap connects and curves to the glass but not really visible unless I look hard. Screen is mint. Sides similar to the top but such light scuffing it's hardly visible.

Every non sapphire Apple watch I've owned before that was the cheaper non sapphire variant and all of them ended up with light scratches on the screen. This time ... nothing. The case of my s10 has held up ok compared to the aluminium s7 I had before it.

Such a pity that Apple charges a small fortune to get the sapphire screen when other watches give it by default for zero extra (example - Samsung's base watch 8 model !)

One thing to note though (see my other thread) is that trade in values of the expensive watches are very low. An s10 Titanium Cellular which cost £799 with the strap is worth £160 to Apple just 1yr later. Not that I'd trade an s10 for an s11. Maybe for an ultra 3 if I were seriously considering it, but at that value I'd just keep it.

Thank you :)

I intend to rock the watch for approx. 4 years. I want one which is perfect in any situation, but the difference to the UWA3 is so small by gaining so much more battery life.

Tough one.

If you want it to last 4 years and look in decent condition, titanium is the way to go. If only as mentioned above the sapphire screen, that will be more or less spotless and not a scratch on it even after 4 years, even if the body gets a bit dinged up.

I currently use an AW Series 8 in graphite stainless steel, which also had the sapphire screen. Three years in, the screen is still in perfect condition even though it has had the unavoidable brushes against brick walls, etc. Apple claims that this year's version of the glass screen that aluminum models get is improved, but I remain skeptical that it would resist scratches as well as mine has.

There are always going to be exceptions, outliers and flukes but the sapphire screens can take so much and not get a mark on them, over years. I’ve seen people scrape them over brick on worksites, dropped face down and dragged and not get a mark on the screen. The aluminium ones that don’t have that sapphire screen, I’ve seen people days after getting them brand new with unexplainable scratches on the screens. Apple are claiming new coatings this year… I’ll personally never get a non-sapphire screen version. I know how much I have put my watches through over the years and never regret having that version. I had the S0 till the S3 came out then the S3 till the U1, not a single mark on the screens of either over the years. The S0 had the polished steel body, so it had minor cosmetic scratches on the body but no actual chips or deep scratches. The S3 black, my friend still uses it and screen and body don’t have a mark on them.

I bought the slate S10 Ti last year and it still looks like new. They are very tuff.

I now have S7 Ti and it’s mint, both body and screen. I’ve always had aluminum before, and both screen and body always ended up with marks that bothered me. Since I’d get cellular either way, it’s a $200 difference to have it look flawless as long as I own it—well worth it to me.

So update:

I cancelled my pre-ordered Space Grey S11. The Space Grey will look stunning from what i've seen from the reviews!
The main reason was, that i tried on an UW2 today for a few seconds and thought, that's it.

No worries regarding bumping into something, big display and great battery life.

The Ultra is a little bit too clumsy for office, but i think i can finally wear a smartwach and not constantly thinking about how to avoid damaging it.

Great choice! So you're getting the U3 I presume, which color?
Your comment re office, I suppose that depends on your location, here in California - no-one cares ;)

I'd still be worried about dinging it 😆

I've always babied my aluminum Apple products, and they've all still wound up with scratches or dents, Apple Watches (S4 & S7) with dings or gouges in the glass. Aluminum's just a bad material for anything smaller than a computer that you want to keep nice. However, my launch day AWU2, which has been banged into more metal doors than I'd like to admit (and far more than either of my aluminum watches that came before it), looks pristine. The Titanium and Sapphire Crystal can really take a beating.

Titanium finish of the standard Apple Watch gives you the same peace of mind without the brick on your wrist 😉
