i finally decided that the apple watch is something i want to get but i didnt think deciding on the model would be so difficult lol.

i went to apple today and got to see and try on in person.

originally i wanted the space black one but seeing it in person, it does not look as black as it is more of a deep grey. for 1100+ i dont think i would buy it if its not something i 100% love.

i tried on the space grey sport and couldnt believe how light it was. i think its great if you want "black" too especially with the sport band. however i feel like the sport only looks good with the sport band. i tried it with the milanese which i think is beautiful but it just doesnt flow right IMO.

i tried on the stainless with the milanese and its beautiful, however i noticed that there were tiny scratches and its def going to attract a lot of those. also it is noticeably heavier than the sport, maybe more so because of the band but the face itself is definitely heavier.

i really cant decide now.

the sport is something i can wear more carefree however i read that if/once that case scratches, you pretty much have to deal with it where as the stainless can be polished. the weight to me is the best thing about it, but looks wise like i said, its either sport band or bust IMO.

the stainless is beautiful but i dont think i can wear it carefree because of its tendency to get marked up. also its heavier. but literally any band will go with it and the stainless finish looks amazing, even for someone who wanted a black watch coming into this.

did anyone else have the same deciding issues as me? what did you ultimately do?

I bought the SS model because it looks better than the Sport with most of the bands in my opinion. I also like the weight and shine of it. I purchased the $8.00 Case below from Amazon for it.

http://www.amazon.com/Monoy®-Premiu...65828&sr=1-1&keywords=monoy+clear+apple+watch

It covers the glass and the sides of the casing and you can barely notice it is there. simple protection from light scratches. The case is so good I bought a 2nd one for myself and my wife for her watch.

Did you just viewed the Space Black inside the display case? If so, it looks deep grey inside the case (due to the lighting), but is actually more black once you remove it from the display case. Quite deceiving and this caused some members to think Apple changed the Space Black color in the production models.

thiis is actually very unnoticeable. i wish it didnt cover the screen. do you feel it to be an issue? if i go with the SS ill def get something like this.

thank you.

yes i did view the space black in the case so maybe youre right.

however i did not think that i would like the SS as much as i do, and for me personally i do not think its worth it to pay double a SS price for the black, as nice as it is.

.

The case is thin enough that it does not interfere with the touchscreen functions.. Force touch and swiping work just fine.

I have the 42mm silver aluminum sport watch that I put a blue leather loop band on. I too purchased the clear clip on plastic cover. It is a wise investment. You have to look hard to see it and it does not interfere with the screen sensitivity in any way.

I have smacked the watch a couple of times and popped the cover off. It has some nasty scratches on it now - which is why I purchased more than one. But the good thing is - no scratches on the watch or the case. I actually never realized I was so klutzy but I am glad I bought the clip on cover.

the space black consumer version is literally a dark black for the production model, i wanted it to look more gunmetal like the display version but its pitch black. I returned it :/

Except it's exactly the same color. The gunmetal color inside the display case is just an artifact of the lighting in there.

I thought the same until a sales associate said he and others working there also though the display one was in fact lighter in color. Looking lighter is why I ordered the SBSS and I'm also considering a return because of how dark it is. Still pretty awesome and if I didn't have the SS (which I had planned on selling), I'd keep it.

They're wrong as usual, just like the many so-called "Apple specialists" who feed forum members incorrect information.

i have a space grey sport w/ a black leather band - looks great. i think it's a good mix of class and stealth.

actually, according to apple the milanese loop is lighter than the sport band. much lighter. 33g for the 38mm vs 37-47g for the various sport bands of the same size (different colours have different weights) - the difference is the case.

i have the milanese for my sport now, and a couple of times today i forgot i was even wearing it.

I've had my SG Sport since about two weeks after launch. Looks like new. Not sure what people are doing where they are scratching up their watches. I also have a 20 y.o watch which was my daily before AW and it only has micro scratches that must be in bright light w/ a magnifying glass to be seen.

For my $ Sport is the best value for the $. And now you can buy 3rd party stainless steel bands for $25-50, so why someone would spend appreciable more for the stainless steel model I don't know, esp. when Apple is bound to update w/i a year with a better processor and more functionality.

Agreed.

I saw a video on the various straps and bands available from Apple.

What seemed clever is the ability to mix sport band colors, assuming there is more than one band. In the future, my wife will get an AW, and she would want to switch out bands for the right occasion. She has resisted the AW because there has not been a compelling enough reason for her yet. I expect that will change with WatchOS 2.

The prices seemed much higher for the Apple bands and I will prefer to get compatible options available from the overseas market.

Already, I have the non-Apple black Milanese band and I'm very pleased with it. I will consider the other colors of silver, gold and rose for future possibilities.

There are people who spend appreciable more for the iPhone 5/6/6+ instead of the cheaper 5c solely for the look (even if they don't use TouchID or Apple Pay). Not everyone is into the mismatched aluminum/stainless steel look.

I have the stainless steel with a Milanese Loop for everyday wear and the white sports band for exercise.

I love it. The loop is actually a bit lighter than the white sports band. The sports band is particularly soft and feels so much better than the bands you get on the FitBit or the Up.

I considered the aluminium version because of the cost but I figured I was spending a lot anyway, may as well bump it up to a unit that will probably last me much longer - every watch I've ever owned I have managed to scratch the glass so hopefully the sapphire will live up to its reputation.

Plus, it comes in a cool box that is perfect for storing the power adapter, cable and my sports band for travelling.

I was on exactly the same boat as you.. I figured that since you're wearing it on your body and you definitely will be looking at it many times during the day, it's worth the investment. I'm going to go with the SS for that reason.

EDIT: also the resell value of the SS will be more than the sport. Made it somewhat easier for me to justify the extra bucks haha

You'll actually recoup more of the cost with the base model, and this would be the Sport. This is true of most things you sell, ranging from base model iDevices to base model vehicles.

Theretically you could be right but there will certainly be a lot more of the Sport versions available in the secondary market, which in turn will likely lower the value of those models.

People still recoup more of the cost selling base model iDevices, even if there are more of them relative to the higher end models.

I bought the silver sports model because I hate shiny metal on my wrist. Most of my other watches are brushed SS. I think the silver sports look better with many of the straps compared to the SG version.

I went to the store thinking I'd get the SS, the SS with Sport Band wasn't in stock so I bought the Space Grey Sport Watch. Kept thinking of the SS so I ordered one set on returning the Sport Watch. After trying the SS I plan on keeping the Sport. I thought I liked the weight of the SS, but after using both I like the lighter watch. Thought I liked the polished silver until I wore the a Space Grey, I like the black watch and black band. This is all just personal preference of course. But, I definitely notice the haptic notifications on the Sport Watch much better. I don't think it's anything to worry about, I just wish it had the scratch resistance of the Saphire screen in the SS Watch.

For me, right from the beginning the Stainless Steel Space Black with SS Space Black link bracelet was The One. I tried on the Space Grey Sports watch, too, but kept going back to gaze lovingly at the SS SB in the store showcase. I didn't preorder, and instead waited for the watches to become available in the retail stores, checking daily to see if the SS SB were at my local store yet. One day it was....and without bothering to make a reservation I got in the car and went to the store. It was a wonderful experience opening the box and seeing that gorgeous gleaming black beauty! I absolutely adore the thing and although, yes, it was an awful lot of money, I truly get visual and tactile pleasure from it as it sits on my wrist. I haven't yet bought any other bands for it, I'm so enamored of the one with which it came, but eventually I"ll probably get a couple to swap out with it from time to time.

I like the heft of the stainless steel on my wrist -- it feels good, it is a reminder of quality, and the black links and black watch itself gleams as it catches the light but without being showy. The black bezel also is terrific for the colorful watch faces, which really pop and stand out.
