I bought a used MacBook Pro and the original admin account I can't seem to delete. I've created my own admin account and that's the only account on the computer I use now. I've been wanting to delete the original account for some time now, but whenever I try to delete it I get asked for that account's password (which I know) and when I enter it the box shakes and says it's incorrect. I changed that password just to be sure I was getting it correct and still no success. I've tried that user account's password and my user account password and no luck. Is there any way I can delete this account without wiping the hard drive? I've tried several terminal commands but it always gives me errors.

I can still use the computer perfectly fine, it's just bothersome to have an extra account I never use and can't delete. :p

Also, I'm running MacOS Catalina if that helps.

Try making it into a non-admin account first.

If that succeeds, then try deleting it.

Just an idea. I'm not running on Catalina.

If it still doesn't work, I'd treat it as a beta bug.

You shouldn't be using Catalina as your "main OS".
It's a beta and too many things may not work properly yet.

What I suggest you do.
1. Back up your data to an external drive using Time Machine (I would suggest either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, but they don't work with Catalina yet).
2. Boot to INTERNET recovery (not the recovery partition)
3. Use Disk Utility to ERASE the ENTIRE internal drive
4. Use the OS installer to re-install Mojave
5. When setup assistant asks if you wish to migrate from another drive, YES, do this, BUT...
6. Choose to migrate ONLY -YOUR- account, and leave the unwanted one behind.

If you want to experiment with Catalina, install it on an EXTERNAL drive for now.
