Can't delete 'locked' photo items in the trash

I have imported photos from my hard drive into new iLife > iPhoto.

It keeps prompting me every time I start iPhoto that new photos need to be imported. I click ok and then I get this below.

So I go into this directory to delete the offending items ie move them to the trash. Once they are in the trash I can empty it as these jpegs are locked!!!

Anyone know what is going on?

Have you tried selecting the file in Trash, opening 'Get Info' and deselecting the 'locked' option under Color Labels? Usually works for me when files won't delete.
