EDIT: I figured that [XXX] would get people's attention ;)

I'm running into problems with deleting certain files left over by an application I uninstalled (Parallels). OS X is teling me I don't have the permission/authorization (can't remember the exact wording) to delete these files, even though I'm logged in as an admin and even though this app was originally installed in this very account. What's going on?

In my experience, I ctrl-click the file and do Get Info. Then in the info window there is an Ownership and Permissions section at the very bottom. I go through those options under there and change them all to my user name and then it lets me delete them. Especially change the Access privileges under there. Hope that helps.

If you needed to authenticate t install it probably installed some of the files as root which means that you will need to authenticate to remove them

sudo rm -rf is your friend.
