I need help trying to get rid of old photos in iPhoto. I highlight old photos, hit Command-option-delete, and the old photos go to the iPhoto trash. That's great. Then I go to the iPhoto trash and hit Command-Delete and they disappear. Then I go back to the main iPhoto window and the discarded photos are back again. I've tried over and over and am up to 10,000 photos from as long ago as last year. What am I doing wrong?

That's because the Command-Delete command is "Restore to Photo Library":

Instead, choose iPhoto -> Empty iPhoto Trash, or use Command-Shift-Delete to empty the trash.
