Can't do anything that requires admin access because authentication window won't show

Hello yet again!

I find that doing anything that requires admin access is currently impossible. The authentication window won't show up. For example, opening up System Preferences > Accounts and clicking on the lock just makes it say "Authenticating..." for a few seconds before going back to "Click on the lock to make changes". What could possibly cause this?

Strangely, Terminal can still do sudo stuff.

IDEA: Repair permissions. I'll do it overnight.

I'm an admin. But the window would show up anyway if I weren't.

Anyway, a permissions repair fixed the issue. Weird stuff happens when permissions break.
