Can't Download WMP for Mac

I've been trying to download Windows Media Player for my mac and it won't work. I click on the link to start the download and the downloads window opens up with the status bar but when it is finished downloading nothing happens. When I click on the download Text Edit opens up with a whole bunch of unreadable ********. This happens every time I try to download something actually. Any ideas?

Eek. I wouldn't even use WMP.

Why are you not using iTunes?

WMP has been superseded by the Flip4Mac components.

the same thing happens when I try and download flip4mac. I'm using WMP player because I'm trying to watch video from mlb.tv.

Try VLC media player. that has support for very many file types

It sounds like you've managed to associate .dmg files with TextEdit. Right-click on the file that you downloaded, go to Open with, and make sure that it's set to DiskImageMounter.
