macOS Can't drag a Formatter over a whole Table Column!

I'm going through Hillegass' book right now, and p.130 includes dragging a Number formatter over a whole column, not just the text cell, but when I drag in a Number Formatter, I can't find any way for the whole column to highlight the way his screenshot does.

Is this a version issue? Do I even need the Formatter?

I figured it out- the Number Formatter does in fact go on the cell, not the whole column like the book repeatedly stresses.
