can't drag image from safari to ichat?

Up until recently I was able to just drag any image from Safari and drop it in iChat. Now when I drag the image to iChat, I still the the green circle with the white + in it, but when I release it, the image flys back to Safari.
I can drag an image to my desktop, or finder without a problem. I can then drag that file into iChat, but I can no longer go direct.
Anyone else having this issue, or have any idea how to fix it? My computer is up to date, still running snow leopard, 10.6.8. Safari 5.1 and iChat 5.0.3. Thanks!

In safari, right click -> copy image.
Paste (either using right click -> paste or CMD+V) into ichat window where you type.

I know I can do that, but up until last week I could just drag and drop. No needing special keystrokes.

For reference, I'm still able to do that both in Chrome and Safari. Have you tried repairing permissions? I've seen it help in the same types of problems.
