Hi,

I just updated to new Apple TV 2022 with 2 HomePods, previously I used Apple TV 4K 2021+ 2 HomePods and eARC is working fine.
But now it can only enable ARC, not eARC, which is weird because I use same port on TV (Sony A80J), same HDMI cable (Belkin HDMI 2.1).
But somehow eARC can't be enable.

Is anyone know how to fix this?
I already tried factory reset with tvOS 16.4, also factory reset with my TV.
Still not working

I have the same problem with slightly different components. My TV is a Samsung top of the line 2019. My Apple TV 4K is the second generation. I have two HomePods that are brand new.

The HomePods are connected in stereo. When I tried to use eARC using the setting for auto on the Samsung, the sound goes off and after a short time reverts to the TV speakers. If I change the eARC setting to off, I get sound just fine through the HomePods, But I'm sure the sound is just ARC and not eARC. I blame the Samsung TV. The HDMI input is supposed to be eARC capable and of course there's a sound setting that reflects that. I hope someone will shed some light on the solution to this problem or Samsung will update.

I have the same TV. Maybe something changed with the 16.4 update. Double check the ATV Video & Audio settings. Then try going into the TV settings and go to the HDMI signal format settings and make sure the eARC/ARC port is set to enhanced. If it is set to enhanced, try changing it to standard format and then change it back to enhanced.

And you have likely already did this, but maybe double check you are plugged into input 3. Maybe you thought you were input 3 and used another input accidentally. I've done that before. If all that checks out, either force restart the TV by holding the TV power button on the Sony TV remote until you see the restart option or unplug it for a minute and then plug it back in.

Something has changed since the update. It was working perfectly before the update and now I’m getting no sound when I try and run the sound from my Xbox through my HomePods.

I was on tvOS 16.3 when I purchased my HomePods, therefore, eARC never worked on my system. I should clarify a little bit, it did work intermittently, but never continued to function after turning the Samsung TV off/on. This intermittent functionality was extremely infrequent, maybe half a dozen times over months of trying to get it to work.

I see the same issue with my Samsung TV, Apple TV 2022 and HomePod gen2 stereo pair. I remember a few months ago I did see eARC listed on my Apple TV settings, nothing has changed in my setup and now all it says is ARC. I am not that bothered in the long run as it seems to work fine mostly, the only issue I seem to have is when I get the ARC setting to play my Xbox Series X audio. It can play stereo audio fine but it does have some delay issues when activating Dolby Atmos, it seems like it can't keep up. I would think the extra speed of eARC would be able to handle it.

Thanks for your reply. I was beginning to think I was alone with this problem and that my system was faulty.

I don't believe your Xbox series X is Earc capable. If it was, I would think that turning on Earc on the Samsung TV Would work.

It works with my series S so can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work with the X.

The consoles aren’t directly ARC or eARC - they cannot be used as the “hubs” (for lack of better terminology) like the Apple TV is. But they are capable of sending their audio through the Apple TV and audio playing on through the HomePods. With the stereo option on, the audio works flawlessly. When I turn on Dolby Atmos, that’s where the issues come in. It has a delay that’s noticeable and annoying. I was really hoping the extra bandwidth that eARC allows would be the answer. But as mentioned elsewhere it could just be a bug and it is eARC that’s active and just showing as ARC. I’ve seen other people complain that their Xbox’s aren’t great at pass through audio.
