I'm having real trouble finding a hard/soft shell for a 2015 15" rMBP.

All the ones on Amazon seem to be the same cheaply manufactured plastic that cracks after a while, looks ugly, has rough edges. Ive had them before so I know them first hand.

Even the expensive ones, or ones from reputable names like incase seem to be the same low quality pieces with their own brand names added.

The review sites are poor - they don't actually review them in any meaningful way. Which means they miss the issues like cracking, not being able to open more than 90degrees, feet falling off, and even misaligned vents.

Speck keeps popping up in "top ten lists", even from national newspapers, but the Amazon reviews show its the same low quality plastic, poorly cut or moulded.

I need it to be thin and light to prevent dirt and scratches. I know it won't prevent drop damage as they don't absorb shock. It needs to fit in the Incase Reform Brief, which worked for my previous two macbook pros.

Any suggestions?

I did try the sticky thread but it seem people ignore that ancient thread.

To be honest you'll find very few people who recommend you use them at all. They usually cause more trouble with heat dissipation and overall use and dirt trapped under the shell causing scratching and damage to your mac, that they are actually a detriment rather than a protective device and as you say they are no use if you drop it anyway.

I recommend a good sleeve for protecting it in your bag or a decent laptop bag and that's it.

Thanks that's helpful.

I was told by Apple Geniuses that they only stock safe covers ... what do you think?

Their incase covers are still poorly finished which is why I'm after an alternative.

All plastic shells will crack eventually, lose feet or be affected by fingerprints, etc.
LxHunter has best solution, ie. BestSkinsEver clear matte finish.

I know you said the reviews are bad on Speck, but I've been very happy with my Speck on a 2015 15".

Might I suggest eBay for a new one there at a good price?

Got mine for $20 new in the box and it's been wonderful and I totally disagree about poorly molded/cut. It fits superbly well and is a very high quality plastic.

I like these ye olde book covers ... but I wonder if they prevent air flow for cooling?
