There are some DMG files which I can't consistently seem to find in Finder.

These are located in ~/Documents folder. Sometimes, when I move them around a bit (to the desktop, for example), I can momentarily find them.

But when when I restart my computer, I can no longer find them in Spotlight.

I tried rebuild Spotlight index many times to no avail. Any thoughts?

EDIT: It's just the dmg files I have trouble with. The other files - e.g. word documents placed in the SAME folder - I can find those through Spotlight

Unfortunately, I use Alfred extensively to find my files and it relies in Spotlight.

Can you just not find the DMG files in Alfred... or not in Spotlight directly.

In Alfred I only get DMG files to come up by searching for file names with a space bar hit before the query.

both Alfred and Spotlight.

It's just those few particular files that spotlight seem to always miss.

Is it all DMG files, or just a few? I just moved a DMG into ~/Documents to test it and SL and Alfred find it fine.

Beyond a SL reindex, which you already treid, I am stumped.

Just a few. 4-5. I tried moving them all over the place. It doesn't work permanently (see post 1). They appear momentarily in Spotlight after you move them, but it seems Spotlight "forgets" about them after a restart.

Is there something inherent in DMGs that makes some of them invisible to Spotlight?

I copied the DMGs to another computer. After rebuilding Spotlight's index, Spotlight still can't find these files even though they are just on the desktop.

Not that I have ever seen. I have no idea what might be going on here.
