I'm new to mac's sorry i'm sorry if this is obvious. I tried to change the root administrators password from booting from a OS X 10.5 update disk, but after i changed it and re-booted a white screen came on with a flashing folder with a question mark, the apple logo and the stop sign.
Now, I thought that the hard drives might be fried but when I booted it with the update disk and did the disk repair and verify it said the HD was OK. From there I went to Startup Disk in utility to see if it was still booting from the Macintosh HD, but it wasn't, in fact it wasn't there at all?
Looking around I noticed that some people say that it means your hard drive is corrupt but in disk utility it said everything was fine?
Could it be that I need to purchase a new 10.5 OS X re-install disk and then it will be able to save all the startup data to the HD? When I look at the system information from the disk it says that its still running 10.5?
iMac - 20" aluminium, 2GHz, 1GB ram and 250GB HD
