I just set up OS X Mavericks Server and have Time Machine Server up and running with another mac on the network that has a wired connection. Two other macs however, connected to the network wirelessly, won't display the backup destinations from Time Machine Preferences (client side). Both of these machines are able to see the server from the command line, connect via ssh, etc. I can also mount network volumes with "Connect to Server" and a specific network address. It's the automatic discovery and listing of network devices and services that I'm missing.
All clients are running OS X 10.9.4. If one client is able to see and use the Time Machine Server, then can I assume that everything is set up properly? If so, why are wireless clients unable to discover the backup destinations?
It's worth noting that I'm on a university network, and that protocol differences between wired and wireless connections could be a factor. I say this because the list of Time Machine destinations on the wired client includes dozens of network backups, whereas the list of destinations on the two wireless clients are empty.
I'm currently in discussions with the IT support for my university, and they're leaning towards the "if you have any level of connectivity at all then our job is done" side. Regardless, I get full network visibility if connected via ethernet and it disappears if via wifi (while connectedness with CLI programs remains).
