Can't find photos

I am wondering if this is a ongoing problem for all or just my device. I currently have a iPhone 5s running 8.0.2 and notice that whenever I take a photo using the volum rocks it doesn't go into my photos app, but if I use the camera app an use the white button on the bottom it goes directly into my photos app. Now, it's listing I have 11 on my phone when I look under General-About, but my photo app only have 3 visible.
