iPod Can't format iPod Video 30GB

I can't format my iPod video with windows of itunes. I recently replaced the battery. I turn the ipod on and it says please restore in iTunes. I connect it to my computer and it goes into disk mode. The iTunes reconizes it but then it says can't download recovery software.
