iPod touch Can't get gmail to work on ipod touch

I have tried all the suggestions so far to get my gmail account to work on my ipod touch. i went through "other" email account and set it up using imap and it still won't connect. Does anyone have simple, straightforward instructions on how i could get this to work? I would appreciate the help! Thanks!

If you have the iPod software 2.2 or 2.2.1 you shouldn't need to set it up as "other." It should already be there along with the Microsoft Exchange, MobileMe, Yahoo, AOL options. All you need to enter to finishing the setup is your full name, email address, password, and a description of the account if you wish.

When I try that I get the message "cannot connect using ssl" do i choose yes or no? will that even work?

my gmail pretty much set itself up after entering UN and PW. Make sure your incoming server port is set to 993, outgoing server port is 587 and SSL is turned on.
