I have a Macbook Pro with a UK keyboard. The hash (or pound in the US) sign is on the 3 key alongside the British pound currency symbol. If I do shift-3, I get the currency symbol (£). I have found no way of getting the hash symbol (#) - I did that one by dropping into a Windows VM in VMware and copying it over.

Option+3 is *supposed* to give me what I want, according to a lot of googling, but it has no effect on my system. Also Option+2 should give a euro symbol but that doesn't work either. It's odd as option+ other number keys gives a range of symbols.

Has anyone any suggestions?
