can't get my iphone 4 to show up on macbook 2.1

I hook up my iphone 4 running IOS7 and it does not show up on my desktop or anywhere else that I can tell. It also will not hook up by bluetooth, it pairs with the computer, but will not connect. I know both are old but..... I probably am missing something stupid, but couldn't find the right place for dumb a***d questions. Macbook 2.1 core 2 duo.

Any help certianly will be appreciated.
