When I load my MBP, the Apple logo shows up, the circle at the bottom goes round and round, and it just keeps rotating. I left it on for an hour and it never went to the log in screen. I suspect there are some harddrive clutter issues (e.g. memory overload? maybe?), but wanted to know how I can possibly resurrect my MBP. How do I get past the loading screen? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

I would boot from your install disc (or boot into recovery if you are on Lion or Mountain Lion and don't have physical media) and then reinstall the OS. Not really sure there is anything you can do other than this
