Can't get *power off-slider* to come up[

iPhone 3GS. Holding down the usual button for 10 secs does not make the slider-power off button come up.

Thoughts, suggestions.

When I try that and the home button, all it does it brings up voice control.Running 4.0 OS.

Sounds like your power button is loose. Can you lock the screen with it?
