I have a 2013 "trash can" Mac Pro currently running Monterey 12.2.1. If I try to upgrade it to 12.3.1, it downloads the update:
macpro:~ root# softwareupdate --verbose -i -a -R
Software Update Tool

Finding available software
Downloading macOS Monterey 12.3.1

Downloaded: macOS Monterey 12.3.1
... but then it just sits there, doing nothing.

I've uploaded the most recent snippet of /var/log/install.log as an attachment.

Nothing really jumps out at me as an obvious cause, although these two lines seem ... odd:
2022-04-02 17:34:32-07 macpro softwareupdated[278]: SUOSUServiceDaemon: <SUOSUProduct: MSU_UPDATE_21E258_patch_12.3.1> is ramped, not downloadable at this time

2022-04-02 17:34:32-07 macpro softwareupdated[278]: SoftwareUpdate: request for status for unknown product MSU_UPDATE_21E258_patch_12.3.1
I found a thread over on the Mojave forum where someone couldn't install incremental updates because they had old entries in /etc/hosts, but mine is stock/empty.

Any ideas? I can provide more snippets of /var/log/install.log but the older entries seem pretty cyclical and are much like the snippet I'm attaching to this post.

I had a different problem. I'm on a 2019 NcMP 7,1. I was running 12.3 and the 12.3.1 update refused to show itself in "Software Update". I finally found the full 12.3.1 Installer and installed it from there with no issues.

Where did you find the “full 12.3.1 Installer”? I thought there were no more Combo Updaters anymore after Catalina.

Or are you saying you downloaded the latest “install macOS Monterey.app” and re-installed the OS in a non-destructive fashion?

You can use the full Monterey installer to update to 12.3.1 without losing your data. You are correct that there are no delta or combo updaters available anymore.

I found it by searching around on the web. Apple doesn't 't want folks to know about their availability. It's called " InstallAssistant.pkg"
And Yup, No more downloadable delta and combo updaters?

Install went fine?

Here is a link to Mr. Macintosh's web site that has links to the full Monterey installers:

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone would please help me. Thanks.

It is now over 5 days after the release of macOS 12.3.1, that included two zero-day security fixes, but my M1 Max MBP will not upgrade to 12.3.1. I know I can download the full installer, as shown in the following screenshot, and manually install it, but why is this happening?

Software-Update-Screen Shot 2022-04-04 at 2.11.05 AM.png

As you can see above, the macOS 12.3.1 full installer is available for my MBP, but "softwareupdate" returns "No new software available." Why?

Thanks,
Solouki

Escuse me but the installer is about 12GB, are you sure that installing it, my data will not destroyed as a new installation? using it is like normal upgrade?

Yes, if you just run the installer and do not manually select to erase your disk in Disk Utility, your data will stay there. You should of course have a backup in case something goes wrong.

I am on Monterey 12.2.1 and when I check the updates its not finding any update saying that the system its already up to date. So I would like to have a way to update the system to 12.3.1 without a clean install....

Yes, like I said: download the full installer from the App Store and run it.

Hi, I'm currently running Monterey 12.0.1 on my cMP 5,1, previously installed from separated Disk containing Mojave 10.14.6 with OC v0.8 (From Martin Lo).

Now I want to upgrade specifically to 12.3.1. But software update is only allowing me to see latest available version which is 12.4.

How do I upgrade to the 13.3.1?

If I download InstallAssistant.pkg from other source e.g. from here: https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-12-monterey-full-installer-database-download-directly-from-apple/, will it become a clean install? Because I have already installed other applications, hence I do not want to redo the install.

Your advise will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
