I've been trying to get my Mac to connect to my Windows VM.

Here's my setup:

Mac OSX 10.6.8
VMWare Fusion 3.1.2
--Windows XP Pro

I had my Firewall turned on. When I was first trying to connect, I'd get a dialog asking me if I wanted NetAuthAgent.app to allow incoming network connections, but it would disappear very quickly after popping up. I wasn't sure whether to click yes or not on that one. It eventually stopped disappearing. I also killed the app through Activity Monitor because I read that resetting it can solve some networking problems (since then I've restarted the Mac so it should load again when needed).

If hardware is an issue then I can post it, but I wouldn't imagine it matters much. What I'm trying to do is connect an NTFS formatted HD to my Win XP VM so that I can share it with OSX and format a bunch of file names (Finder's workflow is more efficient).

Anyway, I can't get my Mac to connect to my VM. I've tried it with both NAT and Host-Only networking, and neither one will allow my Mac to connect. If I can get it to appear in Finder's Shared sidebar at all, it fails to connect. I can't connect with "Connect to Server" either. This message appears:

"The server 'xxxxxxxxxx' may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."

I've checked--the server name is correct.

I've gotten it to work before, but it's sort of sporadic. Right now I can't get it to work at all. What's weird is that the server will eventually appear in my Shared sidebar, it just won't connect.

If there's any other information needed to help troubleshoot this, I can supply it. Thanks for any help.

EDIT:
Well, it worked when I turned off Firewall (once it finally appeared). Any way to get it to work while Firewall is on?
