Can't go wrong with a free iMac!

My friend texted me asking if I wanted an old iMac for free, I obviously said yes. It is a snow 600MHz iMac G3 with 512MB of RAM, 40GB HD, and it works wonderfully. I'm currently looking for my 10.4 disks and going to install Tiger on it. Can't wait.

if it's still running OS9, be sure to upgrade firmware before installing OS X

Got OS X Tiger installed, ran software update to 10.4.11. I'm surprised how well Tiger runs on this thing.

congrats to your iMac G3 , they are such cute little computers and not only Tiger runs well ,it is surprisingly fast if you consider that the computer is nearly 10 years old , i just love these little buggers , they are like pets but dont wee on your carpet

I wish I could get a free iMac! Even the first generations still pop up on craigslist and sell for $50 here. Haha, also makes me feel old... I remember in Elementary School when they introduced those machines and we got a lab of them to replace PowerMac 5200s... ahh how time changes.

Thanks to you MacHamster, and 92Ward. My friend got it from a school district and since he is leaving for service in a week he decided to give it to me. I'm sure you could find an iMac G3 or a few for sale or just given away by the school districts. I know the local school districts has a company auction off palettes of them for cheap.

The iMac G3 is still amazingly usable in these days. It's a great iTunes server, and a wonderful web browsing machine. I love the iMac G3.

Congrats, i paid $40 for mine but have brought home at least 10 for free

I recently brought 4 home and stripped them then sent them off again

But i could not bring myself to throw the purple one out, it is too cool.

P.S. i just realized i didn't strip them of the CD drives

So you get them, strip them of the parts and sell them again?

Haha of course not! if i am going to hustle someone it will be with a more expensive Mac

I get them from the trash take their parts and recycle them. I would keep them but i don't have the room
