Can't Import Video into iMovie 08/09

Hey,

I recently got an HD Camcorder and I had been able to use it to import movies from it to iMovie 08. However the other day I was not able to anymore. Now I open iMovie 08, it recognizes the camcorder, I select what I want to import and then I click import.

Then it freezes, iMovie does nothing, doesn't import nada. I have waited 3 hours for a 45 second clip to import. So I decided I would go to Best Buy and I bought iLife 09 and I was hoping that would fix my problems.

I have the same issues in iLife 09.

If anyone could please provide a solution it would greatly appreciated.

somewhat similar problem

I created a short mp4 video file of a powerpoint presentation, saved it as mp4, and m4v. In iMovie 08, I try to import it into a New Event. Everything seems to go fine, but the clip never shows up in the Event window.

I've tried numerous times. The short video plays using Quicktime just fine.
Any ideas why it won't show up?

Improting a video file into iMovie 09

I have tried importing some video files I have in my itunes library and it does the same thing. It acts like it was imported correctly but it never shows up.

That is because of video formats are incompatible.

Yeah I figured that out in February, I ended having to get Final Cut Express which works brilliantly to get the video off.
