I usually use my Mac to install iOS updates, especially for the full version updates, but I'm having trouble updating 2 different iPhones to iOS 16. I've tried using 3 different Macs. I'm prompted to do one of those small Device Support updates, but after the update downloads, the installation fails. Two of the Macs are running macOS Monterey 12.6, and the 3rd Mac is running Catalina. I thought I would get around the issue by using Apple Configurator to do the update, but I'm prompted to download the same Device Support update, and the install still fails. Has anyone had success using their Mac to install iOS 16 on an iPhone?

I had an old iPhone 8 and it didn’t like doing that via the Mac either for some reason so I did OTA and had no problems. So either do OTA or put it in factory restore mode and I would assume it would download the new OS in the process.

I searched online and found a few sites that suggested installing Xcode and launching it once. Sure enough, after doing that, the required Device Support files were installed, so I'm now able to use the Mac to install iOS 16.
