Can't install new update for Thunderbolt on my MBP

So I received notification that the Thunderbolt port on my 2011 Macbook Pro has a firmware update. The update says the computer will restart and load of a grey screen with a status bar. My computer shuts down and loads that screen but instantly turns off again and I hear the chime and the computer starts up normally. The update doesn't want to install on my machine. Anyone else have this problem or any advice?

this is odd. can u try downloading the update from the apple website and installing the update while on safe boot?
