can't install OS X hd locked

i have a 2008 macbook pro i recently upgraded to el capitan and it worked fine ...i wanted to erase it and give it to my son....now i can't recover it back to far settings after getting to recovery it says this item is not available at this time ...then i go to open the hd it gives me the "its locked error " please someone help thank you ...

Do you have some other way to boot like maybe an external drive or a USB key?
