Can't install Snow Leopard or Restore -- Crashes

MacBook Pro '15 2.53 C2D Late 09
Spinmaster 7200RPM 500 GB Drive

Ive tried 2 hard drives now and both have the same problem when trying to load the operating system. It gets about halfway and then it just freezes. Time Machine too, this last time it got an error and just stopped working

Tired of opening this computer up so I hope I can get some help.

Update: Used Copy Copy and copied my oldd HDD to the new one. Too slow to use.

tried to install OSX again , hangs up at the 28minute mark.

Maybe its not the hard drives, it could be the install dvd?

I believe it could be the install disc as well.

I mean, if you tried to install it on two different hard drives - it's not impossible but somewhat unlikely that the problem is the hard drive.
