Hi there,
I've been trying to replace my MBP's hard drive with a Solid Stata Drive, but it seems my Macbook does not like it.
I bought a 32 GB Patriot SSD and my computer did not see it. This drive showed up in Disk Utility the first time I connected it to the SATA port but couldn't erase/partition/mount it. After that it just vanished. It didn't even appear on System Profiler. So I thought I got a defective unit.
After that happened, I bought a 60 GB OCZ Vertex Plus SSD. Good! I could see the drive in System Profiler and Disk Utility. However, I got different problems:
1. If I have the SSD plugged in to the computer SATA port, I can't format nor partition it. It always gets stuck in the process (see picture below) and I have to quit Disk Utility. No matter whether I try to install Snow Leopard or Lion from a DVD drive, USB external drive or the Lion Recovery Disk (in a partition on the regular SATA drive connected through an optibay)
Disk utility stucks at "Waiting for the disks to reappear"
2. If I connect the SSD through the USB port in an external enclosure, I can partiton and install Lion on it. After that, I removed it from the USB enclosure and connected it to the SATA port.
That's what I last tried, resulting in me putting back all screws on the case happily, cause the computer booted normally from the SSD and could work properly. I was surprised with the machine's performance, but... I restarted the computer. The system did not boot up, and the computer shut down. It kept shutting itself down after a few seconds showing a grey screen every time I tried to boot it up. I booted up from the old drive and could see the SSD wasn't mounted, as in the picture.
I don't know what's wrong with it. I don't want to believe I need to open it up again. But according to these threads it looks like an issue with Sandforce controllers.

Any ideas? Do I need to get another SSD, again?
Thank you
