Can't jailbreak iphone 4s

Hey all, I am running latest software on my iphone 4s. I downloaded the appropriate absinthe for windows (running windows vista here) and have run as administrator. plugged in my phone when prompted.

The jailbreak appears to start, but then just stops. Nothing happens. I've tried about 10 times now, will even leave it plugged in for hours, nothing happens. Doesn't hurt device, doesn't change anything, but doesn't seem to jailbreak it.

I tried to do my ipod touch 4g and it worked (different download for the A4 obviously) without any major issues (a few tweaks and it was done). But I can't get this to even start.

Any suggestions? I tried to download from both iclarified link and from the dev teams blog and neither made a difference.

I've also restarted my computer, my device, etc. without any luck.

After downloading the .zip file, you need to extract the files.
Then, and only then, can you click on the absinthe.exe and JB. ;)
 
Would my ipsw not be stock now as it has never been jailbroken?
 
I presesume you already have your phone for awhile and have stuff from the appstore installed and tweaked your phone to your liking, restoring it to stock, it will be factory settings with nothing installed, that has worked for others.

You do have the latest absinthe 0.4 for windows from greenpois0n?
 
Yes I have the current absinthe 0.4 for windows. Seems it just doesn't want to jailbreak right now. I'll have to give what you said a shot.

Before trying this (i have 64 gb and it's full!), is there any quicker things to try before going all out like that?

Did you extract the files after you downloaded the .zip file ???????????????
 
i don't think there is any other way.

64 and full??? that on it self might be the cause....

Try going for a stock restore, be sure you have a good backup though!!
 
yes thats the problem. Jailbreak exploit is designed to work via backup function. its trying to backup your iphone. try this:
make a full backup in itunes
restore it to clean state. don't choose to restore your backup yet
do jailbreak. after its done reconnect it to itunes and go through setup steps and choose to restore from backup
 
Do a clean restore
Run Absinthe (I recommend version 0.3)
Then go to Network in Settings and throw the VPN toggle
If it errors, clear the error and throw the toggle again until the phone reboots on it's own
It will be jailbroken.

So if I do a clean restore its in factory state. Then I jailbreak. How do I then go about getting all my apps and settings back on it how I have them now? Or do I have to do everything manually? That will be super time consuming........

Anyone? :)
 
Maybe you don't fully onderstand what we are saying.

Make a backup from your phone in itunes.

Afterthat in itunes restore your iphone to stock by reinstalling the 5.01 firmware.

Now you have clean phone, jailbreak with absinthe.

After that put your previous saved backup back from itunes.

Restoring and putting a backup back are two different things.

I'm thinking that maybe I am NOT fully understanding. Is there a site/tutorial that shows me EXACTLY how to restore to stock and then put my backup back on my phone? I don't want to screw this up.

First off all in itunes, right click on your iphone name in the left pane, select make backup.

This will "save" all your settings, contacts, txt, message, etc.

You can restore your firmware 2 ways:
1) on your phone goto settings/general/reset and select erase all content settings.

2) In itunes select restore

Official apple tutorial:

Once you have a clean phone than use absinthe to jailbreak.

You wil now have a clean phone, jailbroken with cydia installed.

After that is complete in itunes right click on your iphone in the left pane again, select restore from backup, this will bring back all your settings, contacts, txt, etc

K, I followed all your instructions and i seems (so far) to have gone off without an issue. Thanks so much for all your patience and help! :)
 
Still working, no conflicts, this after doing a lot of instals and playing with it. Seems that everything worked well, thanks so much for all your help. :)
