the ipsw file i downloaded is coming up in many different files instead of just the ipsw. i cant find the file with redsnow. what can i do? thanks

Google "iphone ipsw location," and it's the first result.

BTW, I'm not just being a smart ass because we can't answer this question unless you tell us what operating system you're running.

Try C/users/admin/appData/roaming/apple computer/iTunes/iPhone software updates

sorry im using windows. i know exactly where the file is but it getisnt represented by the classic ipsw icon.... all it is is a bunch of dmg files. im finding the restore.zip file

Unless you have a slower Internet connection, it may be faster to solve this by downloading another copy from iclarified.com. There are links to the 4.3.1 IPSW on the jailbreak tutorials for that IPSW. Good luck.

you have two "problems" o/w the first is a real serious one =)

- you downloaded the IPSW with Internet Explorer
- you need to make Windows show your extentions

Do this with Firefox instead =)

You pressed Open instead of Save.
You DO NOT have to use Mozilla. If it downloads as a ZIP, then switch the file extension by renaming it to .ipsw and it should work.

Just rename the file from .zip to .ipsw

You must do this WITHOUT opening the ZIP file. That being said, it's too late. He opened it. DMG files are inside the ZIP-compressed IPSW; there is no other way a Windows computer can get DMG files by downloading a software update from Apple.

I've opened up the file and I had no problem renaming the file. And my iPhone is running perfectly fine jailbroken on 4.3.1

I meant unzip, srry. Unzipping makes it lose data, and it won't work afterwards. I've tried it myself.
