I just got a new m3 MacBook Air and am trying to sign into my Apple account to link iCloud and it keeps saying verification failed - your apple account or password is incorrect. It came with 14.x installed and it was doing this so I upgraded to 15.1, but same behavior.

I know the user/pass are correct because I'm logged into other machines with it and I also just tested on a incognito window logging in to iCloud.com and the user/password and 2FA worked just fine.

Any ideas?

I am going to guess that you're making a mistake typing your password. The operating system should have nothing to do with inability to sign in. Having other machines signed in is meaningless too as far as the password is concerned. Make sure caps lock is turned off, and be very careful with case and symbols.

Apple *can* and *does* lock people out of logging into iCloud from devices that Apple is suspicious of.

What makes a device "suspicious" is unclear.

Call Apple Support, get past the first level of support (first level will just tell you you're entering your password wrong) - ask for an escalation, they're good about it and every single upper level Apple support person I've ever talked to has been very very good.

That secondary person will be able to see what's going on. They can blacklist Apple devices, and they can check to see if your new MBA is blacklisted.

Thanks - I'm going to give apple a call. The pwd is coming straight from a password manager so it's definitely not a typo. I wonder if the device got flagged for some reason

Unfortunately, I have direct experience with this very issue but the second-level Apple support person was fantastic.

Note, in the end I had to change my Apple Account password to make everything right again, they were adamant that that was mandatory as part of the process, so don't be too surprised if that comes up, even though it's a PITA to do given the amount of Apple stuff I and other people have.

I got into a situation where the TV app would not work. It would give an error (which I don't remember). I was able to sign in to my Apple account with no issues. I called Apple Support and they were able to resolve the issue. It had something to do with my two Apple accounts (one I no. longer use) somehow getting cross borked.
