Sometimes I'll be working with an application (quicktime, ichat, adium, etc.) and the yellow minimize button will turn gray and I won't be able to minimize the program. Any explanation as to why this happens? How can I fix it?

I'm using a Macbook Pro

This is a bug that's been around for quite some time now. Seems pretty rare (haven't seen myself in at least a year), but every once in a while someone like you posts a thread about it.

Sometimes restarting the app will fix it. Other people have found that only a log out and back in or a restart will fix it.

I have no clue why it happens.

Have you restarted your computer since you first noticed it?

Might want to try repairing permissions...I doubt it will help, but it can't hurt.

Yeah restarting fixes the problem only temporarily. I don't know. Maybe it happens less in 10.4.10 because I'm on 10.4.9. But I can't upgrade right now because I get airport related kernel panics on 10.4.10. Overall, my switching experience hasn't been that easy.

I know this is off topic, but how much do you minimize? I minimize a window maybe once a month, if that. I was just curious to know why some people do it so much.

I like to minimize webpages and adium/ichat when i'm working in another application.

Do you run any full screen games...I seem to remember that they can sometimes cause the issue.

And it's been so long that I can't remember, is it just that the yellow minimize button is gone or are you completely unable to minimize? Specifically can you still minimize by either double clicking on the title bar of the window or using the keyboard shortcut (usually Command-M)?

You can also hide apps, generally using Command-H.

I just can't minimize and the yellow button becomes gray. It may be a full screen game because I've been playing X-Moto. :D
