Hi folks,

I would be very grateful for some advice please...

I went to maplin and bought an external USB-2 Seagate 250GB hard drive. I connected it to my MAC (latest Intel Core Duo iMac) and formatted it in Disk Utility as Mac OS Extended (journaled)... no problem.. dumped some stuff to it....THEN.. I needed to backup some stuff from my PC (Win XP) but it can't read a MAC formatted drive... SO I reformatted it in WinXP as NTFS.

My Mac can happily READ files on the drive.. but now it says I don't have permission to write or modify. I tried using the good old CHMOD in a terminal window: chmod 755 MYDISK ...but threw up a file/disk not found error.

Can someone please tell me how i can get OS X to let me read, write and execute - and SEE in BOTH OS X and WinXP.

Many thanks
Mark

Actually... I have just read the other thread:
Can OSX see a 500GB FAT32 drive (1 Partition) ?

Which seems to suggest OS X can only read/write FAT32 and NOT NTFS

Looks like I will have to stare at another WinXP progress bar again!!!!

As you say OS X can only read NTFS partitions. You should be able to format your 250GB drive to FAT32 using the disk utility and be able to use it with Windows or OS X.
