Experts,

I bought my friend's old iPod, with click wheel.
I run a windows lap top. Clearly, I am saving up for some Apple product.

Back to my iPod. While it was still on warranty it died showing "folder with exclamation mark" and Apple asked for it back. I had done the 5 'R's, and it was showing 'cant mount iPod" while attached following updater's request to attach the iPod. It went back to the Orchard to get fixed and was returned.

OK for a few months. Then I left in my car glove box for about a week.
It started to misbehave, scrolling through songs without my clicking the wheel.

Then exclamation folder came back and it started making the deathly "click, high pitched whine" noise. I did the 5 'R's. I formatted my lap top. I reinstalled iTunes. I used my original cd to get an updater. I have downloaded the current updater. Always the updater says "cannot mount iPod".

Shall I buy a trowel and shroud?

Yeah, it's dead. You can either take it to Apple or ditch it and buy another. Can I recommend a Flash-based iPod such as the shuffle or nano since they're generally more robust. :)
