Can someone please help me - I'm trying to move folders off my desktop and out of downloads into their own folders. When I drag them to the new location, I see it listed there but it is still in downloads or on the desktop. If I delete it from downloads or the desktop it goes into the trash and I can't open it. How do I move folders?

There could be a few reasons for this. Are they copies? Alias files? Still, frustrating. I would reboot first (easy, and it fixes all sorts of things_. If not: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4244938
It sounds like you are dragging them from one volume (disk) to another. Are these files in your downloads folder disk images?
