Can't move mp4 to trash

Hi, a friend sent me an mp4 file and I tried to put it in the trash. I ended up with a mini window that says "Moving mp4 to trash" "Items to delete:1" It has been sitting there with the little moving diagonal lines all night now. I don't know how to get rid of it and I can't empty trash because this is running. I think I should restart the computer but am a bit hesitant. Any guidance?
