can't network my macs in Yosemite?

My laptop used to how up in the finder on my desktop - and vice versa.
Now neither will show up.
Can anyone help me fix this please?

Before anyone can make a suggestion more information is needed:
  • The type of computers being used, year model, etc?
  • What is the OS is being used on each computer?
  • How are you connecting to each computer (e.g. filesharing or soemthing else)?
