I recently updated my macbook pro to Mojave. Everything seemed to be fine but I just realized I can't open any .pages documents. I have tried opening them in pages, preview, text edit and nothing works. I can email the file to myself and open on a different computer. Any help would be appreciated. I do have encryption turned on on my hard drive. I am able to open other files like .pdf and .jpeg.

Does Pages 4.1 work in Mojave?

Mojave is breaking many old apps. And you definitely won't be able to use 4.1 in the next version of macOS (coming fall 2019), as they will get rid of older 32-bit apps.

So you will either need to eventually upgrade to current Pages, or buy an external drive to run something pre-Mojave and classic Pages on it. Or you might have to get something like Parallels or VirtualBox and run old macOS as a separate app (you need a decent machine to run two "computers" at the same time).

Also remember that if you buy a Mac now it might not boot pre-Mohave from an external drive (unless it was originally released pre-Mojave when new).

You should be able to try Pages 4.3, as it is still before the great feature purge of 5.0. But it doesn't look good. Numbers seems to still work.

OP:

You probably need a newer version of Pages.

Alternative:
If you download the latest version of LibreOffice (it's free), it should be able to open your existing Pages documents, if only to read them.
Try this and see for yourself.
