can't open apps from folder, but dock apps work

I have no idea what happened. it was working fine last week, and then the other day I tried to open up iMovie and i get "The operation could not be completed / An unexpected error occurred (error code -10810)" This happens every time i try to open anything in my applications folder. the programs on my dock open up fine.

well i did before but it didn't help - but i just rebooted again, and now it seems to be working.

...why did it do that? is there any way to prevent it?

Beats me. If I had to guess, I'd say it was a Finder issue since the Dock worked fine. If it happens again, we'll worry about it then. In the meantime, be thankful that it's working.
