I have a gigantic app that's taking forever to download, and I'd like to just skip it so the smaller ones can load. I thought the way to pause app downloads was to tap the icon, but this doesn't seem to be working for me -- I tap it, and it either ignores the tap, or briefly changes to "Waiting..." before going right back to "Loading..." What am I doing wrong here? Thanks for any help.

Not sure it's the case. I just restored my wife's iPhone 5 yesterday and I was trying to do the same thing. it does pause after I tap the app icon but not immediately. I guess it might take even longer for you since you have loads of apps as you mentioned.

When restoring all my apps I found that if you tap one you want before the others it starts downloading it straight away.
