People want a high quality map app that is integrated. I want to be able to ask Siri about local businesses when I'm driving. I don't want to have to pull over to use third party applications.

understood. just trying to offer a suggestion as a work around for the time being. I'm sure someone from jailbreak team will figure out a way to default the map program used in the future too..

I do hope so! Have never jailbroken (?) before but I would for that.

Its free. Albeit there is an option to unlock for 2.99.

Uses Google Map data from what I can tell.

As far as I understand, it uses iOS APIs to provide maps that are integrated into iOS. On iOS 5 Maps+ will be served with google maps when using maps APIs. On iOS 6 Maps+ will be served Apple maps by using the same APIs.

Just tried maps+ and it does indeed use apple maps on ios6

Maps+ had been updated and now uses Google maps again. Very helpful for maps in Japan, as the Apple solution is extremely lacking in detail.

The big, and often forgotten, problem is exactly how many apps use the Map Kit and built in API's to function.

I use fitness apps to track my runs/ biking via GPS... they are now crippled since the maps of those areas are barren (Google had bike/ walking paths mapped, Apple has no plans to do so).

Real estate apps are completely useless as the addresses in my neighborhood are all a mess on the new maps.

The same could be said about Find My Phone/ Friends.

Even most weather apps pull from the same data.

Replacing Apple's Maps with another navigation app will solve some of the problems, but it still leaves plenty without a solution.

It will be interesting to know when the authors of those apps are going to do as others have and integrate with Google Maps and data points.
