The question is simple: I just can't play .avi files on Quicktime!!
I've been trying for hours in a row, have downloaded several decodes and nothing....I'm wondering if this is a mactel issue.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you

Quick solution, download VLC.

Quicktime player solution, get the Divx decoder it works fine for me.
But VLC really is what you should be using, it is much more versatile than QT Player.

There is an issue with that Flip4Mac Windows Media codec that Microsoft released with Intel Macs. My friends iMac doesn't like it at all. It's not native and Rosetta can't seem to handle it, if you have any more problems with other Windows format media.

VLC player is really good though! One of those "must have" programs!

Download the DivX 6 for mac intel beta:

That will help with most of your .avi issues and QT.

If you go the VLC route, don't even waste your time on the PPC versions - go with the intel nightly builds as mentioned above. They've been working on the intel version for months, and the latest builds are very capable.

If you want WMV capabilities via QT, you need to find Flip4Mac 2.0.1. The newest version (2.0.2) won't install on intel macs. Even with 2.0.1, you'll need to run either QT and/or your browser under Rosetta to play WMV files under QT.

Only problem is that it doesnt support WMV.
