I am having trouble playing MKV files in Quicktime X. I have Perian installed. When I click on an MKV file to play it it plays fine in Quicktime 7. Is there something I need to do to allow mkv to be played in Quicktime X?

thanks.

The file association for MKV might still be established with Quicktime 7 - that was the default for several formats. I just changed the “open with” setting on the Get Info window and set Quicktime X as the default.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried changing the default to Quicktime X, but when I do that the mkv file is not able to open.

Perian is only available for QuickTime 7 - there is a QuickTime X version in the brew.

So use VLC.

Yes, that will work.
Some people like to use only one player for all.

I was able to open .mkv files with Quicktime X using Perian 1.1.4, but I started getting the 'error' recently. The only change that I can remember is installing CS4. It also installed the other packages along such as Bridge, Device Central, Drive, Extension Manager, Media Player. I don't want to uninstall CS4 as I use it alot and it takes some 'effort' installing it.

I reinstalled Perian, but still not working. I haven't restarted the machine yet.
